Art & Neighborhood Stories

Go Explore Memphis Soul -GEMS presents an amazing performance by/with/for the community alongside professional Theatre Memphis actors. “The Heights,” written by Rory Hatchel, Kingsbury High School English teacher & The Heights resident, is an artistic representation of families’ stories, the needs, and dreams of a beautiful Memphis neighborhood. The script is based on the powerful narratives of diverse individuals and families who enrich the entire City of Memphis. Each neighborhood has an identity and The Heights in the Jackson District is an incredibly multicultural community where many gems exist. These gems helped informed the Comprehensive City Plan as Memphis enters its 3rd Century.

In collaboration with Latino Memphis, City of Memphis, YancyArt & Theatre Memphis. Supported in part by Tennessee Arts Commission, ArtsMemphis, Urban Art Commission, Su Casa Family Ministries, Streets Ministries, Heights CDC, La Michoacana, Jerry Sno Cones, and Queen of Sheba
